I am used to travelling and moving freely to pursue my work as a mountain guide in the nature. A quick trip to Chamonix, a flight to Scotland for mixed climbing or a short-notice trip to warmer climates for climbing – all this was normal until now.
Times have changed and during the Corona pandemic we all have to adapt. But as an agile adventurer, you also quickly realise the upside of things and you quickly take advantage of the new situation. You now can deal much more with what is right on your doorstep.
Unknown solitude right on your doorstep
The current winter is ideally suited for any kind of outdoor activity because of the great weather. The desire for snow was particularly strong right from the start, and so I was drawn to the Pitztal Glacier with various friends to go ski touring. Because of the closed lifts, we took the e-bike and cycled towards the glacier. A quick switch to skis and in no time we were in a previously unknown solitude. The days were long and we hardly met any other people, you could almost feel like you were far away. Any negative thoughts had disappeared and only the positive of this unique nature remained.
During the trips to the glacier, I noticed more and more the perfect combined conditions and the growth of the ice. The impression did not deceive me and so I managed to do a few not too difficult but still cool tours with various partners not far from my own front door.
To sum up, you don’t always have to travel further and further to experience your adventure. There is still enough to do here, too, and that has its charms.
